Concertino for Bağlamas & Orchester

kolner_philharmonie

The Bağlama is a folk music instrument, which reflects the feelings and the thoughts of the Anatolian people.  The Anatolian music, lives within the strings of the Bağlama.

This instrument was invented by the Asian migrants. Compared to the instrument of today’s time, it was very small and was played bare fingered (Çelpe-Method) instead of using the hitting ring used today. City people discovered this instrument, changed the form slightly and introduced the tezene (hitting ring) to make it the Bağlama of today.

The world premiere of Hasan Yükselir’s Concertino for three Bağlamas and Orchestra took place in the Kölner Philharmonie in 1996.

Composer, Hasan Yükselir enthuses the large cultural diverse audience in the sold-out concert hall with this extraordinary masterpiece of traditional Anatolian instrumental music combined with elements of western classic music. The main intent of this musical journey was to show that music, art and culture do not have any boundaries.  With this project the harmony between the variety of oriental and western music is to be presented and the similarities that connect the two, are to be underlined.
